The top for this writing desk is 25mm thick a is made of oak as the rest of the piece. I did a simple profile at the edge by a block plane and then I scraped it with modified card scraper (I ground desired shape into a scraper)
The top can be tilted up to 15 degrees, so there must be a subtop under it. Subtop is 20mm thick and is firmly screwed to both containers. The top is connected with two hinges, next pictures are showing how I made mortises for them.
Now I have to sand everything nice and smooth and put finish on it.
